“Up coming Festivals for the year 2010″

1. Punakha Dromche: 20th – 23rd Feb 2010:The Punakha Dromche will be held in the open courtyard of Punakha Dzong. The Dromche portrays the ancient time when Zanbdrung Ngawang Namgyal brought about unification in the Kingdom of Bhutan in 17th century.

The famous arm force of Zhabdrung “The Paazaps” dominates the celebration by performing the procedure of waging the war against the external forces.

2. Punakha Tshechu: 24th – 26th Feb 2010: The two days festival basically will be showcased in the courtyard inside the Punakha Dzong. One will see multitude of People from near and far places.

Thongdroel, the giant Thangkha will be displayed at the dawn of last day. Witnessing the Thongdroel will clear the sins committed by body, mind and soul of an individual.

3.Chorten Kora Festival: 28th Feb and 15th March 2010: The festival is organized at Chorten Kora in Trashiyangtse.

4. Gomphu Kora Festival: 23rd & 25th March 2010:

The Gomphu Kora festival is the highlight of the life of Guru Rinpochhe, the great Indian saint who brought Buddhism in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan and Tibet. The great Guru prophesized on gathering of multitude, once in a year to make curcumbulation around his legacies which will be seen in the form of different shapes and form of black stones today in Gomphu Kora. Making a couple of curcumbulation will make an individual free from the worldly sins.

Literally “Gomphu” means Meditation cave and “Kora” means curcumbulation and the very reason for the initiation of this festival have a special and spiritual cause. Guru Rinpochhe had an immense love for the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan and in particular for Tibet. Guru spent 45 years in Tibet helping spread Buddhism and construct the Buddhist monasteries. It took so long for Guru to bring his mission into fruition and due to the destruction caused by the evils spirits his stay prolonged in Tibet.

Guru Rinpochhe even assisted the king of Tibet to construct the first Buddhist monastery “The Samey Monastery”. It was during this time that the evil spirit name Myoungkhapa escaped from Samey and followed the course of present day Kholong River and remained hidden inside the rock at present Gomphu Kora. The evil spirit was subdued by Guru and was appointed as Dharma protector there on.

Several legends in the lineage of Buddhism made a visit to this pilgrimage site and made significant contribution in strengthening the Buddhism.

Attending this festival will clear one from worldly sins and bring luck and success. Also lifting of the artifacts have individual significant like curing of sterility and so on.

5. Paro Festival: 26th – 30th March 2010:

Venue: Courtyard inside Paro Dzong and in the open courtyard outside the Paro Dzong.
